The Benefits of Singlehood
A lot of us grew up believing that finding Mr. or Ms. Right and living happily ever after with him or her is the only way that we can ever have a complete and fulfilled life. Until that wedding day comes along, our lives would be in limbo, hanging uncertainly between adolescence and true adulthood.
Some of us may still be waiting for the right partner to come along, while others have already given up on the wait. There are even some singles that are not waiting for no one. Instead they have decided to live a complete and fulfilled life on their own. These are the singles who are happy with their singleness and do not feel compelled to find spouses or life partners.
A few decades ago, the idea of being single and happy is seen as preposterous. Indeed, how can anyone be all alone in this world and be absolutely happy about it? It was simply unthinkable. However, times are changing rapidly and how society views singlehood is changing quickly as well. No longer are singles seen as incomplete people living unrewarding lives. They are turning out to be happier and even more accomplished than their married counterparts.
Now why is that? It is mostly because single people enjoy more opportunities that are not even open to married people. Married people tend to become more limited in the way they interact with others, even with old friends and relatives. They are also limited in what they can and cannot do.
Singles, on the other hand, have no such limitations upon them. They can date with whomever they want. They can also do a lot of things on the fly without having to consult a spouse, such as travel or take up a new hobby. Most of all, singles have the time and the energy to devote to making themselves better people if they want to. So, being married is no longer the end-all and be-all of our existence. Staying single has now become a serious and viable alternative.
