More UK Singles Are Meeting Online

Dating is a social ritual. But with the breakneck speed of modern urban existence, the day is not far ahead when the traditional boy meets girl routine will become more the exception than the norm. The advent of the internet has begun to change the very texture of our social fabric. It is becoming more and more convenient and logical to try and find a potential date online. A large number of UK singles have now discovered online personals and are willing to give it a try.

Social dating has always had an air of challenge: to get the attention of the opposite sex, one had to go a long way. This could get even harder if the potential date was somebody known to friends and family. The fear of refusal loomed large. Further, it was difficult for girls to approach guys without sending out a lot of wrong signals in general.

Instead, online dating can be carried out in the privacy of the study, with the click of a mouse. No one need be any wiser, either. Date-seeking singles can simply subscribe to a singles services website and put up their profiles, waiting for expressions of interest. Or, they could express an interest in someone whose profile they like. No fear of public refusal, and the cloak of complete anonymity makes the process a lot easier.

This evidently suits the retiring British temperament. According to the website 24Dash, a recent survey has found that 83% of the British population have looked for online love at some point in their lives and 53% of them are subscribed to two or more online personals web sites. According to the same survey, 60% of dates forged on the net were still seeing each other more than a year into the relationship.

Though still cautious about the safety of the medium, UK singles have little, if any, reservations left about meeting other singles on the net. In fact, 86% of them find absolutely nothing wrong with it. While a few couples like to conceal the birth of their relationship online, most do not see it a negative feature. Online dating is seen as a great way to shortlist the people one might like. It also helps build comfort levels before that first meeting. With the advent of web personals, there is simply no excuse for eligible singles not to look for love.
