Nailing Down Speed Dating BasicsSpeed dating has gotten increasingly more exposure for the same reasons that online dating has become a more and more popular way to meet new people. Speed dating events, like online dating web sites, allow singles to meet people they might not normally meet in a setting that is a little less difficult to navigate than a bar or club. There are no awkward moments when you realize a particular person has a significant other as everyone is in the same situation and looking for an at least similar outcome.
The strength of the speed dating process is in its simplicity. Men and women gather in a particular place and sit down for a few minutes with the other eligible singles there. If, after those few minutes, a man decides that he might want to see that woman again, he puts a checkmark next to her name on his registration form and moves on to the next person.
At the end of the event, the forms are turned in and event organizers contact daters after the fact with contact information for those daters that put checkmarks down for each other. If you wanted to meet someone and they didn't feel the same, no information is swapped. It's a simple process, but not knowing what goes on at such an event has kept some people away from giving the process a shot.
Speed dating is a great way to get out and try something a little outside your comfort zone. The process has yielded networking opportunities, friendships and relationships for many that have made themselves vulnerable in such a way. Online dating is no different. Anything that gets you out there and available for people to see is a step in increasing your opportunities for meeting someone new. Posted by eDatingCentral.com Apr 28, 2007 9:45 am
