Your Dating Flavor Of The Night

The buffet date is probably not what you would envision, given the name. No, it's not a trip to the local Sizzler to embarrass yourself with a bit too much pot roast. It is instead apparently an online dating phenomenon where a particular dater schedules multiple dates on one night to embark on an all-night gorgefest of epic dating proportions.

A recent article published by the Sun Journal outlines a few of the most common dating categorizations that dating singles, both online and off have been likely experiencing for decades. For example, the shame date is one in which one dater gets drunk, makes questionable decisions and ultimately ends up with someone unfamiliar in their bed the next morning. Another, the breeze-by date, entails a simple meeting for coffee as something akin to a pre-date to explore the possibility of even pursuing an actual dinner.

My personal favorite, the preemie bomb, takes place when one dater starts bringing up the prospect of a second date well before it is time, eventually killing any kind of spark or romance that the first date, still not finished, could have had. If you've had a questionable or even memorable dating experience, it is likely on the list in one form or another, ranging from fix-ups to that first date back after a long relationship.

Though the article claims most of the classifications to be mostly modern dating examples, I'd like to think that daters have brought prospective mates on group dates only to have them fall for a friend for decades. Similarly, something tells me that the marathon date, a never-ending date that simply keeps going from sun down to sun up again, has been a staple of dating for some time.

My advice? If you find yourself in the midst of an entirely bizarre date, think back to the classification of the "weirdly fascinating but not quite creepy date" and instead of fleeing for the exit the first time your date politely asks you to call him or her "Kitten Toes", stick around to see just how the train derails.
