Speed Dating Is No Silver Bullet

No matter what kind of form it takes, dating can sometime be a nerve-wracking experience. Though the goal of speed dating is largely to create a relaxing low-pressure atmosphere, those with their hearts set on meeting someone that night will still feel the familiar set of butterflies upon entering the room. Such was the recent dating experience of one woman that took the plunge and tried out a Jewish singles speed-dating event as her first foray into the method.

Predictably, the Jewish speed dating experience had its ups and downs ranging from a man that claimed to be a lion tamer to someone that spit (accidentally) on the woman in question. Speed dating is just that, dating, and we have all had the ups and downs of dating, though perhaps not in such a short time frame. The author's point is, and I agree with her, that speed dating does little more than compress the usual dating experience into a shorter time frame. While this can certainly in some cases help you find the one, it can also put you through the wringer of 10 bad dates in 20 minutes.

Online dating functions much the same way, giving you exposure to a large number of singles that are, presumably, looking for the same thing you are. Instead of going through conversations one by one in a bar, you can instead strike up multiple conversations and see where they go. The only misconception comes in when daters expect quick miracles.

Dating is dating no matter what format it originates in and just as you can have a horrible date with someone you meet at a club, so too can you have a horrible experience at a speed dating event or with someone you met online. Staying realistic and work to find a real connection, whether you are using online dating, speed dating or the phone book to find a mate, is the only way to grab the relationship you're looking for.
