A Must for Dating Online

Every online dater knows that the most important thing to consider when setting up a profile on a dating website is the information they provide in their profile, or is it? The words that you write are important, make no mistake, however the photo that you post is equally as important, if not more so.

The photo that you choose to post is really the front line of your profile. It is the first thing that other singles look at; consider it the same way you would consider your business card. This is your contact card – the reason people will or will not contact you – the photo is your first impression.

Your posted photo should resemble the reason why you are posting online in the first place – the reason you are dating online. If you are looking for something casual, your photo should be casual, for someone looking for something serious, the photo should reflect a more serious side.

For the text of your profile, take some time to review it before posting it. You should make sure that the grammar is correct and that the advertisement is well worded. Portraying yourself as someone with bad grammar and spelling shows a lack of education, and you can post all you want about your extensive education, but if you write sloppily, nothing you write will really matter. Avoid slang terms and shortened versions of words like "luv" and "u", which only serve to make text hard to read and the reader feel as if they're deciphering a coded message.

It's important to make that first real contact early on in your dating relationship – speaking on the phone and planning to meet for your first date. Don't worry – there shouldn't be any pressure. Keep in mind that your first date is a preliminary meeting to see if you really get a long and if there is any good reason to meet again for a second date. It's easier to be let down early by finding out what someone is like in person than to get emotionally involved via email and messenger services only to find out in person, the person is much different.
