Choosing the right photo for your online personals is ultimately just as important as what you write in your profile. Chances are you've paid to be a member of the dating site and you are doing so to attract dates to you. So don't settle for an 'ok' photo or one of the online avatars offered by the dating service.

Most searchers on a dating website will filter out profiles that don't include a photo, so the number of singles who are viewing your profile can significantly decrease without a shared photo. It's important to remember that everyone has issues with the way they look and everyone has imperfections. You can't hide from the camera forever, so have a friend take some snapshots of you and post them along with your personal ad.

There are a number of ways to increase how photogenic you are and how well your photos turn out.

• You can make yourself look slender by creating a different look – turn yourself at an angle to the camera and cross your arms.
• Lift your chin up and extend it outwards to erase tell-tale signs of a double chin.
• Erase the weight from your stomach by standing behind a tree, or sitting on a chair backwards, or crop your photo just under crossed arms across your chest.
• Men look best when they are leaning at an angle against something.
• Women also look best with their body at an angle with head toward the lens.
• Have something for your hands and arms to do without just leaving them hanging at your side.

There are many things you can do to increase how photogenic you are – have a friend or a professional, take lots of pictures of you. By doing so, you are sure to find one or two that you really like and feel comfortable posting on the web.
