Lessons to Dating Online

Recently, columnist of the Roanoke Times, Joe Kennedy, wrote about his personal experience with online dating. As Joe pointed out in his article, Lessons of Online Dating Scene, people who would have never considered online dating a few years ago are now giving it a try. It seems that the non-invasive appeal of the cyber scene is part of the charm. At least you don't have your best friend showing up at your door with the two weird guys she met at the video store. Then again, she still might. You never know.

Seriously though, online dating has made significant strides. Many people have found and developed viable relationships. Online dating also provides an alternative for those who are shy and not especially inclined to blind dates or personal encounters until they have reached their own level of comfort.

As Joe so aptly mentions we often hear horror stories about the online dating scene. Although this is true, the same can be said for good old-fashioned dating as well. Joe also touches on the subject of those sad souls who want to pour out their stories of misery, suffering and betrayal found in the lives of daters involved in both brief encounters and long-term relationships. But such outpourings certainly aren't exclusive to the realm of online dating. Besides, we've probably all worn our hearts on our sleeves at one time or another.

With refreshing wit and candor, Joe noted the importance of posting photos on your online dating profile. It is important to have common interests and even though appearance may be considered an issue of pure vanity, physical looks are important too. Posting a picture of yourself will definitely improve your prospects. Vain as it may seem, most people don't even bother viewing profiles without a photo. People – please post an up-to-date photo of yourself – not one that was taken twenty years ago. Have some confidence. Be proud of the person you are now. You may just find that special someone that you can age gracefully with.
