A Dating Primer for Older SinglesIf you are 40 or older, single and are ready to get back into the dating, then you should know that things sure are different these days, particularly when it comes to the dating scene. The interesting thing about this is that things really haven't changed that much. Sure, the younger generations these days have some new technologies available to them, but even so, they're following the same old tactics we used when we were their age. First, you get a friend to tell the guy or gal you like that you actually like them. That hasn't changed at all. In fact, back in the day, the first boy to ask me out asked me out through a friend, who asked a friend, who asked my friend, who asked me. No change there. Then, you might text each other on your cell phones for awhile. Well, we didn't text back then, but we did chat on the phone. We might not have been typing "LOL" or "IDK" at each other, but our phone conversations were certainly the verbal equivalent. Next, comes group dates. All the friends go out together, and you, and the guy or gal you like, just happen to be there, also. We did that all the time. I went on a lot of "dates" like that. Finally, one might ask the other to "go out," whether or not an actual date was had or not. And, yet again, this is pretty much the way things went when I was younger. In fact, the only thing that has really changed is that these days, the big indicator for a serious relationship seems to be changing your FaceBook relationship status. In my day, we just traded class rings. So fear not, older singles. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
