A Relationship Guide for Single Parents
Getting back on the horse for a woman with children after she has been thrown for a loop can be a hard decision. Maybe you put on a few extra pounds, let yourself go a bit. That shouldn't stop you from getting back into the saddle for another go.
You are older and wiser now. Look at your relationship and why it went wrong with a critical and realistic eye. Perhaps even a bit of therapy can help you to come to the realization that you deserve good things for yourself. Many single moms play the martyr for their children and put only their needs at the top of the list. Your needs matter as well, and children need to know that their mother's respect themselves so they too learn self respect.
You are not the only woman in this boat. There are support groups for single parents where you will meet others like yourself struggling with many of the same problems. If your ex-husband takes the kids on the weekend, instead of spending the time cleaning house, how about cleaning yourself up and getting yourself out on a date. If you are not ready to try web personals, try other singles activities like picnics, dances and even the fun, fast and furious speed dating.
Think about what you really want from your next relationship. Are marriage and children something you want to consider or do you just want someone you care for to spend time and have fun with for a night or two during the week or weekend? Be it serious or casual, knowing what you want from a relationship will help in the matchmaking process.
Allowing yourself to admit you have feelings and desires too will make you a more confident woman and you will attract a better class of matchups then you did the first time around. You don't have to settle this time, actively look for relationship killing faults and put your smarts to work for you. Go out and have fun and don't feel guilty. The children will survive even if they see that their mom is having a good time without them.
