Singles Group Pushes Face-to-Face InteractionAlthough more and more singles are meeting their life long partners online, getting two people together romantically is still perhaps one of the most difficult things to prompt. Think of the long time couples you know. Most met entirely randomly through a mutual friend, party or other happenstance that thrust the two people together only to see sparks fly. Now think of how many people you know that have been set up on blind dates or thrust together awkwardly by a group of friends. The success rate is probably much lower. Some people have taken to singles groups like this one to meet people as a way of removing the anonymity of online dating but reinforcing the low-pressure, easy going nature that makes online dating such a popular platform. While the organizer of this particular singles group says that the first intention is not romance, it was certainly the impetus for creating the group. There is merit to the idea of simply getting enough people in a room together will result in some match-making, but those attending certainly have to be of romantically-inclined disposition. The group may be touted as a friend-making machine, but it is the prospect of a romantic connection that draws people in the first place. Online dating has many advantages, but one of the weaker areas is the true conveyance of a person's personality. Although most online dating services offer private email exchanges, instant messaging and live video chats, even the staunchest of online dating advocates would tell you that those forms of online interaction can only take you so far when trying to decide if someone is right for you. Social groups like the one in the article help bridge that gap, even if it is bridged through a somewhat staged environment. The moral of the evolution of this singles group, if there is one, is to always open yourself up to new social avenues. The results may be good (dimples you simply can't get enough of) or bad (a laugh that you couldn't stand for 10 seconds). Whether it is through local singles groups or online dating, it's simply a matter of choice and convenience. Posted by eDatingCentral.com Jan 12, 2007 7:47 am Related Online Dating News Articles:
