Steer Clear of Dating PitfallsWhat is a dating deal breaker? In the corporate sense, it's that one thing that someone isn't willing to compromise on that will blow a deal. The same principal applies in the dating world. Some deal breakers may be considered shallow, such as having red hair and freckles. Some are major such as not being steadily employed. Some of the most common dating deal breakers are cheating on your partner, smoking, drinking, drug use, religious beliefs, political beliefs, financial habits (especially being considered "cheap"), race and being or wanting to be a parent. Recently there were a lot of comments posted on social networking website Yelp.com on this topic. Forum posters listed quite a variety of different deal breakers including who paid for the first date, tattoos that were considered ugly, having a "wimpy" handshake, not kissing well and having poor grammar skills. Bethany Marshall, a psychoanalyst in Beverly Hills, believes that relationships are based on various sexual and emotional needs. She also thinks that negative events in the beginning or even the first few years of a relationship can indicate other problems with a relationship. Marshall goes on to say that single men consider women who are described as being drama queens, psycho and high-maintenance as deal breakers. High maintenance may describe a female's negative emotional status such as being needy and demanding. But if a guy describes his dating partner as psycho, this often means that she is too emotional unstable. Just as each person has unique positive and negative aspects, everyone will have individual deal breakers. The key is meeting someone who doesn't have any of yours and vice versa.
