Dusting Off Your Dating Chops

At the end of a relationship, be it a short or long term relationship, the prospect of getting back out into the dating world can be a daunting one. For those coming off of divorces, that prospect can be even more difficult to approach as dating skills that haven't likely been used in years are suddenly needed again to find new dates. Today's dating environment is much different than the dating environment of the 70s or 80s and those that have been in marriages since that time would likely not even recognize the dating landscape if they were thrust back into it.

A man in that very situation recently wrote a series of articles in the Fort Wayne News-Sentinel about the stark contrast between the dating he knew a decade ago and the requirements surrounding dating now, particularly in image-conscious Miami. His revelation that the game has changed is something we can all identify with as the shock of going from a comfortable relationship to the world of dating has touched most of us.

As the article asserts, a few things have changed in the past decade and the rise of online dating has led the charge. No longer the domain of the few, it is now the domain of many eligible singles that have chosen to put themselves out there online in hopes of meeting someone. Speed dating has also risen in prominence, but online dating remains a more important aspect of the dating world.

It is easy to see why online dating services target those that have to go through the process of re-entering the dating world. Instead of being thrust out there without a net, those newly singles coming off of relationships can alternatively take their pursuit online in a low pressure and hassle free environment. Online dating, in fact, is a great bridge between leaving one relationship and embarking on the search to find another, easing some of the difficult aspects of dating and allowing for open communication.
