Dating PhasesMany singles feel that the acceptance of pre-marital intimacy has altered the art of dating and falling in love. I personally feel the basic purpose, and therefore meaning of how singles date remains unchanged. When it comes right down to it, courting is still about learning if we are compatible with another person in mind, body, heart, and spirit. Let us take an example from another area of interest. Not so long ago, most people could obtain a job by filling out an application, and waiting for an interview. Today, even though you may fill out a standard application, your prospective employer will still want to see a resume. Even though this is a fundamental change in how employers and employees go about matching up, it does not at all change the meaning of job searching. In a similar way, the addition of physical intimacy does not automatically mean dating has become something different. Some might say the addition of physical intimacy must result in a marriage, or it is no longer courting. In comparison, this is much like saying that each person that applies for a job must be hired. Perhaps it can be said nothing will stop two compatible people from committing to each other at some point. Even if someone goes on a date without the intent of finding a spouse, it doesn't mean they are immune from the basic laws of attraction. It just means end results aren't always based on conscious intention, let alone expectation. Today, many people feel that pre-marital sex has put a damper on the ability to understand how dating and marriage are related. While physical intimacy may change how men and women go about meeting a perfect mate, the fundamental purpose of this activity remains unchanged. If we go out with someone on a date, regardless of what we expected at the beginning, it does not guarantee that our feelings and intentions will not change throughout the course of the relationship.
