Does Anyone Date Anymore?It used to be that when a single person is interested in having a romantic relationship with someone, he or she would ask him or her out on a date. A few dates would help those two get to know each other and when they find that they like each other well enough, they would go steady and explore a more intimate connection. But that was then, a time that people in their 30s and older may still remember. Today, however, there seems to be less focus on dating among the younger crowd. It seems that dating has become passe and what took its place is something called hooking up. What does it mean to hook up with someone? Apparently, when a group of young people hook up, they just hang out with their friends and do some stuff together. If one of them happens to like another member of the group, he or she may single out that person and perhaps explore some intimate moments. After wards, if things work out, they may consider dating. With hookups, it may sound like the younger generation these days are more permissive, are having more sex, and are having it more indiscriminately. It may surprise you to know that they are actually more reserved than that. Studies by the CDC have shown that the younger bundle these days do not really have as much time between the sheets as they used too. The emphasis is that in today's culture, hooking up stems from the fact that being unable to date is still seen in very negative terms. The fear and stigma of being rejected by a date is still largely felt. With singles hooking up instead of dating, they get more chances at getting dates. And if they do not, then they still can have some fun. But does this mean that hooking up is better than dating? In the long run, apparently not, according to experts. When two people date, it is with the idea that the relationship they have will lead to some sort of commitment. Commitment is not even a question when it comes to hooking up.
