Couples that are going on their first date often put too much pressure on themselves to get it right. With traditional values becoming more prevalent amongst the singles set, getting past the first date can be tough when one or both have too high of expectations.

On a first date it is advised that you don't go to dinner. That should be left until you know each other a little better and know where you stand in the relationship. A first date should be light and easy such as a walk in the park, browsing a museum or gallery or even an old fashioned cup of coffee.

If women want the man to respect them, they must present themselves in such a way that will lend respect. Putting on a pile of make up will definitely give the wrong impression and he may assume he is dating Boy George. It is okay to laugh at his silly jokes, guys like that. Be kind and gracious and show your guy friend that you are a lady and should be treated like one. Men should do the chasing, so let him make the second date and you won't seem as if you are too forward.

For a man to impress a woman, he needs to be a gentleman first. Open all doors, letting her go first and pull out her chair before sitting down. Never boast or brag about accomplishments nor complain that you are put upon by others. Women hate that. Always offer to pay and never let her take out her money. Don't be cheap either. This turns a woman off quickly. Even if she is not your ideal match, be sure that you see her safely home. If you really don't want to spend any more time with her, get her a cab and chalk it up to money well spent.

Dating can be a quagmire if you let it become one. Feeling each other out on the first couple of days before pouring out your life story and tales of woe can ensure that there will be more dates to come. And who knows, you may even fall in love.
