Online Dating Continues Nordic MarchWhile the United States has seen a considerable upswing in the popularity of online dating, that march forward in acceptance has also made great strides across the Atlantic in Europe as well. That acceptance is evident in data recently released by comScore, an Internet traffic monitoring company that pegged online dating web site traffic for the Nordic region (Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway) at over 2 million unique users each month. That represents 3 percent growth over 2006's tally and suggests that the slow march of popularity for online personals continues in Europe.
As in the United States, Match.com and its network of dating services dominate the category, attracting just over 570,000 unique users amongst the 2.2 million that use some online dating portal. Dating.dk, a Danish site, accounted for just over 300,000 visitors and the MeetIC Network accounted for just over 240,000. One in every six Internet users in the Nordic region visited an online matchmaking service over the course of 2007. Of course, one of the more interesting demographic bits of information to come out of the study is the fact that online daters are mostly male and on some sites took up over 60 percent of the member base while the Match.com network has a more balanced men to women member ratios.
Not only does the information comScore provided signal growth and strength in the international online dating world, but also underscores the power of Match.com in its bid to become the one-stop shop for personals the world over. For those of us that simply use these singles services rather than have stock in them, that could mean good things for members as a healthy, strong dating service at the top of the industry heap can help set the bar for better features and engage in marketing to draw an even greater pool of singles to the world of web dating. Should that happen, we might have a few Nordic singles to thank for their continued interest in matchmaking through services like Match.com. Posted by eDatingCentral.com Jun 22, 2007 11:52 am
