With the holiday season well underway, many people are considering what they will be doing romantically in the New Year. While some couples may be planning a wedding, others may be thinking otherwise. For some, the question is simply whether or not to break up before or after the holiday season.

Singles need to realize that both people in a relationship have emotional needs. Even someone that wants to end a relationship is going to feel bad about the loss of companionship, regardless of the time of year. That said, some singles may feel that waiting until the holidays are over at least enables both people to have some shared joy during the holiday season.

On the other hand, there are a few good reasons to end a relationship before the holidays are over. Consider that you will have a very serious issue resolved before the New Year kicks in. Even though you may feel uncomfortable about being "alone in a crowd" during all of the festivities, it may be for the best because everyone can always use some rebound time and just be alone. Those few days during the holidays, when you are off from work, can give you time to nurture yourself. It is a good time to evaluate your needs, and think about what you want in your next relationship. Unfortunately, very few singles take time to just be by themselves after a romantic breakup. As a result, they go headlong into brand new relationships and repeat the same patterns that resulted in failure before.

While few people consider the holiday seasons as a valuable time for introspection, it can be one of the most useful times for singles. If you break up during this time of year, you will have the time as well as the opportunity to think about your future. You can also look forward to an exciting, fulfilling new year of meeting new people and exploring new dating opportunities.
