The Complexity of DatingMaking sense out of all of the feelings collected by the prospect of love, romance or dating can be a maddening process. Online dating has done a great job of cutting out some of the awkwardness of a first meeting as well as some of the difficult moments of getting to know someone. However, there is still that initial face-to face interaction or even the mere thought of that interaction that can scare off some singles.
Case in point is an article written recently in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer detailing one woman's views on dating. Notable is the fact that while she is a columnist that deals specifically with dating, she is also scared of dating and in some cases apathetic about it. While those may be surprising revelations for someone in the business of discussing dating, they are part of the basic fabric of daters everywhere. No matter the forum, online dating site or not, singles from all walks of life have those same feelings of fear sometimes when it comes to finding and meeting new people.
The solution? Well, my point is that there isn't one and there really shouldn't be one. That fear and set of complex feelings is part of what makes dating and meeting people so fresh and unique. That small tinge of excitement or anxiety is something not produced anywhere else and while online personals services can remove some of the awkward first steps, there still exists that rush on the first meeting in person. Absolutely that rush might cause some feelings of fear or anxiety and absolutely some of those first meetings will likely turn into "worst date" stories, but isn't that the fun of dating? At the very least, imagine the stories you'll be able to tell when you get home. Posted by eDatingCentral.com Jun 20, 2007 9:28 am
