Small Town Dating HazardsRegardless of where you live, the balance between personal choices and available social information may not always be optimal. Many singles that try online personals say they wish that information were available about a potential dating partner in the rural communities. Strangely enough, singles in small towns often cite this kind of information as a prime stumbling block to finding a romantic partner.
Most people realize that you can't always judge a person by what someone else has to say about them. Even if your perfect soul mate is not someone else's ideal for financial or other reasons, it does not necessarily follow that they are wrong for you. Unfortunately, in a small town, where social censure has more impact, it may be difficult to break out of the social pattern. As a result, many people that are single and available lose their opportunity to meet and have a fulfilling relationship together.
On the other hand, perhaps the negative impact of community rating has some hidden benefits. Consider an instance where you decided not to date someone because of local gossip, or something you learned about them through other means. As may be expected, the best thing you can do for yourself is not date that person. In addition, if you have this kind of judgment about someone before getting to know them, without question, you are not the right one for them either.
Considering there are fewer singles to choose from in a rural community, it would seem that most matchmaking problems would arise from lack of available dating partners. Surprisingly, even small towns and rural areas have more than enough singles. Similar to internet dating pressures, people in small towns often cite the amount of available social information as a hindrance to finding a romantic partner.
